WOMEN EXPLAIN HOW THEY’D LIKE TO HAVE THEIR BODIES RESTRICTED NEXT
The Onion is America’s most trustworthy satire news network as well as America’s favorite sweet treat; their ridicule brings more positive social change to our society than most “journalism” companies do today. A topic can become meaningless when its distorted through the lenses of the likes of the “New York Times”, yet can bring smiles, empowerment, and activism when combined with the mocking tone and parody of the Onion.
Women are particular fans of the Onion. Women love being exposed to the harsh reality of the patriarchy in an ironic way in order to cope with their struggles. For example, in the titular article, the Onion uses historical examples in “the fall of Roe. Vs. Wade” to establish their credibility on the subject of women’s bodies, yet they combine the irony of asking women how they’d “like to have their bodies restricted”, which is obviously something which no woman actually wants. The article starts by presenting absurd examples such as “maybe some sort of Bluetooth device the courts can use to control ovulation,” in order to shock you, but also making use of parody by imitating the absurdity of misogynistic views. The article starts from having a more critical tone to becoming more and more absurd, with the last example as “being forced to do a cartwheel,” which doesn’t even make any logical sense in regards to women’s bodies. This article reveals the absurdity of misogyny and the patriarchy and attempts to ridicule and attack efforts such as Roe. V. Wade which hurt women. Women who read this article can feel empowered knowing that they are entitled to their own bodies and have control over themselves. The Onion is inspiring radical feminists to unite in solidarity and overthrow the patriarchy, however, as America would never culturally approve of this, they hide under the guise of being a “comedic” website, when in actuality, the message is crystal clear to the Onion community.

I liked the first paragraph when you pointed out that The Onion, which is a satirical news source, can inflict more change on society than real news sources like The New York Times can. I also liked that you analyzed how this article impacted their audience, and that it empowered women.
