My Opinions on the Future as described by modern-day Scientists

 In my opinion, gene editing is one of the most interesting developments in modern technology. Despite Raymo’s best wishes, I may or may not have fallen under the allure of the many possibilities which can come from this field, such as curing health conditions and diseases, injecting yourself with effective exercise and strength, living for up to 1000’s of years, etc. We are not quite there yet, but since many Troy High kids have expressed interest in the field of biotechnology, I’m relying on them for these major breakthroughs. In my opinion, a world which is the exact same when I leave it as it was when I entered it is utterly depressing. Progress is too exciting for humans to not chase after it. It has also undeniable made the quality of life overall better. A “measure of restraint” is of course useful in order to maintain the ethics of our society, however, it’s fun to imagine the crazed possibilities which might occur in a transhumanist society. Here are some of my opinions on the top developments:

1. Necrobotics:

In the future, we will be able to use dead bodies as our robots. This is a great idea in my opinion with absolutely no flaws. Robot bodies are metal, non-organic, and stiff. Organisms already know how to move very well, even walk up walls and fly. Imagine the zombie apocalypse potential.

2. E-skin:

Apparently there are people trying to create the ability to “feel” people as you call them. No way. This will not be used for good things. Not only that, but you know the touch of a person digitally compressed into bits and then digitally recomposed is not going to feel so warm and inviting. Imagine being in a zoom meeting for work and someone sneezes right in all of your faces, and then someone drops their phone and your computer smacks you in the face.

3. 3D-Printed food:

You might think this is a neat idea. You might think yes, you’ll finally be able to satisfy whatever you’re craving at any moment, but no. This invention will ruin all our society. Once you take a bite out of that 3D fried grape you’ll realize you have no idea what you’re eating and what’s really inside your food. How could you ever trust restaurants again? They could be feeding you literal slop with a perfect silhouette. Not to mention that people would impulsively eat like crazy and then get obese and die.

4. Xenotransplantation:

So we can grow organs in a lab, big deal. How about given people functioning animal body parts? Many people will be very pleased with this outcome. The only drawback is that the surgery is irreversible. Good luck being a red-lipped batfish for the rest of your life.

5. The (actual) metaverse:

This one is the worst!!! This is the worst outcome possible! It’s not going to be your perfect fantasy video game world, it’s going to be lame!!! It’s going to be like living at the office because you have no control over your life. At least in the real world you can run away to the wilderness. You won’t even be able to log out the metaverse unless you’re extremely rich. And you won’t die until you’ve hit a set work quota.

  1. I like your tone throughout the blog. I also like how I couldn’t tell whether you were joking, such as in your first bullet point. The use of an informal and conversational vibe made this fun to read <[:>}
